TREES AND DEVELOPMENT
Planning applications with trees on or in the proximity of building sites should be supported by a tree report prepared in accordance with BS 5837:2012; GreenScene can compile these reports efficiently and cost effectively. We offer a full range of arboricultural services in accordance with the guiding principles of ‘Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction –Recommendations’ which include:
A tree survey usually refers collectively to the trees in a survey area of whatever size. The kind of information recorded includes Tree Name: Number; Height; Crown Spread; Age; Condition; Categorisation; Recommendations; and Root Protection Measurements.
Tree Constraints Plan (TCP)
A site plan to show the tree-related constraints to development as envisaged in BS 5837 (2012); this plan will include both above ground or below ground constraints.
Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA)
A study undertaken by an arboriculturist to identify, evaluate and possibly mitigate impacts on existing trees that may arise as a result of any proposed development.
Tree Protection Plan (TPP)
BS 5837 (2012) covers procedures intended to ensure the wellbeing of trees on a development site. A scale drawing is required to identify the trees that will be removed or pruned, and illustrates the protection measures required for any trees that will be retained.
Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS)
An AMS is often required as a condition of planning consent. BS 5837 (2012) specifies how site works should be carried out near trees in order to avoid accidental damage:
The statement may include the following:
- ABORICULTURAL CLERK OF WORKS (ACoW)
- MANAGEMENT & SITE SUPERVISION
- FEE TENDERING FOR ABORICULTURAL WORKS
- INSTALLING TREE PROTECTION MEASURES
- MONITORING TREE PROTECTION MEASURE
- UNDERTAKING ROOT PRUNING

TREE REPORTS & CONSULTANCY
GreenScene delivers professional advice for homeowners, commercial customers and landowners in the form of tree condition reports, safety assessments, subsidence reports and tree management consultancy in order to help mitigate potential damage and/or nuisance caused by trees.
TREE CONDITION REPORTS
The purpose of a professional tree report is to make an assessment as to the health or structural integrity of a tree, or group of trees in order to provide a level of comment, sufficient to:
• Identify an owner’s duty of care with regard to significant risks to persons and/or property
• Enable recommendations to be formulated to maintain a tree or group of trees.
Tree inspections are generally made from ground level, although our staff are trained and equipped to undertake climbing inspections when required.
Information on tree age, longevity, identification of pests, disease and structural faults which maybe significant to longer term tree health, along with practical recommendations are usually detailed in our condition reports, depending on client requirements.
